It's Opening Day in the Cal League and I just don't have anything to say. I bought a ticket for tonight's game in Modesto, but found I didn't have the time to make the trip.
So I guess this site is done. I will move it into archive mode, because that is what I do. As time goes on, most of the external links will break. But the internal ones should continue to work.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to this site and everyone who made it feel like I was home whenever I was at an SJ Giants game.
It was good fun.

San Jose a winner in Class A Advanced: "One of two Minor League clubs to win 90 games, the Class A Advanced Giants' season was only dampened by an unfulfilled postseason." (Via MiLB News Index.) A nice recap of the 2011 season that points out what I said after the playoff loss. This SJ Giants team might have come up short on their goal, but they had a stellar season otherwise. Congrats to all!

Lenn Sakata - 2006 Colorado Rockies Press Release
"The single managerial change in the Rockies organization for 2012 is with High-A Modesto, where Lenn Sakata has been named the Nuts' Manager, replacing Weinstein. Sakata joined the Rockies in 2011 as the Hitting Coach for Single-A Asheville after spending two seasons in Japan as a Minor League coach. Sakata was a Manager in the Giants organization from 1999-2007 prior to coaching in Japan. He began with Single-A San Jose (1999, 2001, 2004-2007), then on to Single-A Bakersfield (2000) and Triple-A Fresno (2002). While with the Giants, Sakata managed San Jose to three league championships (2001, 2005 & 2007) and was named California League Manager of the Year in 2005 and Baseball America High-A Manager of the Year in 2005 and 2006."
It will be good to see Lenn back in the Cal League. But it makes the SJ Giants job tougher next season. This is good, tough competition hones a team. Thanks to Chris for the pointer.

Lake Elsinore wins Cal League crown: "Nate Freiman homered twice as the Storm surged past the host Ports, 10-3, en route to winning the Cal League championship."
(Via California League News.)
Congrats to the Lake Elsinore Storm for winning its first Cal league Championship since 2001. Since then, the Storm has reached the finals four times and lost three, once to Stockton and twice to San Jose. In both of the series with San Jose, the Giants dropped the first two games in Lake Elsinore, and then swept the three home games for the win.
This year the Storm set themselves up for the dubious three-peat, by winning both its home games, then losing the first game in Stockton. But last night they powered past the Ports to take the Championship.

The SJ Giants lost game four, 4-2 to the Stockon Ports last night. The loss ends a remarkable streak by the Giants. Not only had they won the last two Cal League Championships, they had won the Championship in every odd year since 2005. That's four Championships in six years. Even though the team came up short this season, they are still to be commended for winning the first half and drawing record crowds. Well done!
It is time to start looking forward to next season. I hope to see you in April.
