Connecticut Tigers......: for a year and then the name changes in 2011....same division, same schedule...more to come including pics from the press conference...
(Via Greg's Connecticut Defenders Blog.)
The short season Oneonta Tigers are moving to Connecticut to fill the void when the Defender's moved south to Richmond. I am pleased that fans in Norwich will have baseball this summer.
We will continue to follow Greg's blog, even though the connection is getting tenuous.

Brian Bocock, 2007Blue Jays claim Bocock on waivers from Giants: "The Toronto Blue Jays claimed shortstop Brian Bocock on waivers from the San Francisco Giants on Thursday." (Via CBC | Baseball News.) Brian Bocock played for both SJ Giants Championship teams in 2007 and 2009 (including a home run in game 5 of the 2007 Championship series). In 2008 he opened the season as the SF Giants starting shortstop. But struggles at the plate and injuries limited his play.
In San Jose, Brian was a fan favorite with his flashy defense and timely hitting. Best of luck in the new organization!

Decker to manage Triple-A Fresno: "Steve Decker's rapid ascent in the Giants' system continued Wednesday when the former big league catcher was named manager of Triple-A Fresno for the 2010 season."
(Via MiLB News Index.)
This is a little late, I was on the road, but congrats to Steve Decker on the promotion. Hope you continue your winning ways in Fresno.

Editorial:: "A group of San Jose Giants fans is organizing to oppose a possible A's baseball stadium downtown, worried their team will move out if the A's move in."
(Via Mercury News: Opinion.)
Gee, you folks are keeping me out of the loop. Though, I am pretty sure that I have made my thoughts clear here.
We all know that if the A's come to San Jose, the minor league experience that is the San Jose Giants will disappear.
Minor League Baseball is neighborhood baseball. It thrives in San Jose because we are the largest collection of neighborhoods masquerading as a big city in the US.
Everyone who sees San Jose as the tenth largest city in the US, thinks we need a Major League baseball team. Those of us who live, breath, eat and sleep in our neighborhoods realize that the San Jose Giants are just right.
The San Jose Giants bring us baseball and brings our neighborhoods together. I think that is worth more than the "incalculable cachet" a major league team would bring.

(Via California League News.) The SJ Giants will get their third new Manager in as many years. Brian Harper, a former San Jose Bee, will manage the 2010 San Jose Giants. Gary Davenport and Jerry Cram are returning as hitting and pitching coaches.
