I realize that my last few posts have focused more on past than present SJ Giants. I apologize for that, it is in part, a result of my current situation, dog sitting in Monterey (it's a tough gig, but someone has to do it). It is also, in part, because the SJ Giants aren't really doing anything newsworthy (according to my primary sources - Minor League Baseball and the Mercury News). The Giants are atop the Northern Division of the Cal League, a place that they have rarely strayed from for the last few years.
We have been getting strong performances from our starting pitchers and decent hitting (yesterday's game not withstanding, and if Stockton's Trevor Cahill continues to pitch like that, he won't be in the Cal League long). Not having been to any games yet, I don't have a feeling for this team. I am just running on stats.
So let me know what you think. What is this team like.

Defs, SeaDogs tied at 7-7 going into the 12th...: "Connecticut tied it up in the ninth on Adam Witter's solo HR, his fourth of the season. Connecticut starter Dave McKae went 5 IP issuing six walks and two hits along with three runs, all earned. Ronnie Ray came in and was a disaster giving up four runs in an inning plus five batters allowing 6 hits and 2 BBs. Ray seems always to flirt with trouble and this time it caught up to him. The bullpen of Kelvin Pichardo, Sergio Romo and Jason Waddell have shut down the SeaDogs for five innings now. Run producers for the Defs have been Kyle Haines in his first start going 3 for 6 with a double and RBI. Adam Witter with 2 RBIs. Carlos Sosa, EME, Simon Klink and Ben Copeland (2 for 5, triple) all have a RBI each. Long day tomorrow for me--I'm crashing." (Via Greg's Connecticut Defenders Blog.) The game ended in the bottom of 17th as a loss for the Defenders. 3rd baseman Simon Klink (SJ Giants, 2006) was on the mound and gave up an RBI double to SeaDogs pitcher Jay Johnson. It was Simon's first pitching appearance in his pro career. The game was longest in Portland SeaDogs history, lasting nearly six hours. That's a long game to follow, even for us die-hard fans.
