Banned from the Ballpark

Apparently my post on June 10 was the proverbial straw. Two weeks ago I was officially banned from the SJ Muni and will be arrested for trespassing if I show up at any function there.

It took me some time to figure out how to respond. Do I issue a scathing retort, do I apologize with hopes of being reinstated, or do I just let it go.

After two weeks, I have opted to just let it go. I don't need to raise my blood pressure over this. They told me I was banned from the ballpark and my response was and remains "fine".

But, as I look back over the body of posts on this site I am struck by one thing. I have spent a lot of time promoting the San Jose Giants. The number of posts that are critical of the San Jose Giants Baseball Club are few, three maybe four posts out of over 600.

The criticism was warranted. No apology is necessary.

Raising season ticket prices by 81% hurt the most loyal SJ Giants customers. The San Jose Giants Baseball Club have a sweet deal with the City of San Jose. And the website is more interested in marketing than reporting on the team.

The last point has always been there, it is really why I started this site nearly four years ago. Fans who follow the game and team closely want to know about the players, the team and roster moves. They already know about the upcoming fireworks and don't need the a pitch for the latest ticket plan.

I try to deliver baseball news that won't make the SJ Giants site. That isn't a criticism of the SJGiants.com, it is just recognition that they have a different audience than we do.

So while I may be banned from Muni, this site will not be going away. I will still report on the SJ Giants and former SJ Giants as they make news. While I won't be taking pictures at games, I hope that other fans will. I welcome your SJ Giants shots.

Thanks for listening,
Tom

Romo moves up!

Chulk designated for assignment: The Giants began revamping their struggling bullpen Tuesday by designating right-hander Vinnie Chulk for assignment and purchasing the contract of right-hander Sergio Romo from Double-A Connecticut.

(Via San Francisco Giants News.)

Sergio Romo becomes the third 2007 SJ Giant* to play for the big club this year. Congrats Sergio!

Thanks to El Lefty Malo for the heads up.

*I am not counting Tyler Walker or Brian Wilson, because they were essentially in rehab when they played in San Jose.
