For the fifth year in a row, the SJ Giants have won the first half of the Cal League Northern Division. The win assures the Giants of a first round bye and appearance in playoffs. Twice in those five years, the SJ Giants went on to win the Cal League.
The accomplishment may be more impressive this year because of Visalia's great 10-0 start to the season. At the start of June, with twenty games to play, the SJ Giants were 5 games behind Visalia and 3 games behind Modesto. They were also without the services of their top two pitchers Madison Baumgarner and Tim Alderson who were promoted to AA Connecticut in May.
