Broshuis getting unstuck in Connecticut

Broshuis tosses six perfect innings: "Garrett Broshuis hurled six perfect frames in an eventual 6-5 win over New Britain on the heels of his last start, a complete-game four-hitter."

Former SJ Giant Garrett Broshuis (2005) has been stuck in Connecticut for the last three years. This year he is making strides to get unstuck. Great job Garrett!

Eastern League announces All-Star rosters: "The Double-A Eastern League today announced the rosters for its All-Star Game, to be held in Manchester, N.H. on July 16."

Pitchers Joe Martinez (2007) and Justin Hedrick (2006) and 2nd baseman Kyle Haines (2007) along with shortstop Olmo Rosario will represent the Connecticut Defenders in the Eastern League All-Star Game. Martinez leads the league with a 2.15 ERA with a record of 4-6 in 79.2 innings while Hedrick has a 2-2 record and 1.71 in 42 innings of relief. Haines and Rosario are batting .301 in 156 and 226 at bats respectively.

Matos follows Romo

Congrats Osiris Matos! Another Defs reliever: "
called up straight to the Giants following Sergio Romo callup last week!"

Last night while watching the SF Giants game, I saw someone talking with Sergio Romo. Is that Osiris Matos? Gregs blog provided the answer. Matos pitched for a short time with the SJ Giants last August and becomes the fifth 2007 SJ Giant to play for San Francisco this year. Congrats to Osiris and thanks to Greg.

Greg also has some nice shots of Pablo Sandoval in a Defenders uniform.

Update (7/4/08): Osiris made his MLB debut last night, pitching a scoreless ninth in the Giants 8-3 win over the Cubs.

Catching Up: Bateman bags another All-Star trip

Stars sending eight to All-Star Game: "Angel Salome and Michael Brantley are among the league-high eight players that Huntsville will send to the Southern League All-Star Game.

Headlining the pitching staff is yet another member of the Stars in David Welch (8-1, 3.62 ERA), who leads the league in wins. Huntsville has three more hurlers on the roster to join Welch in Patrick Ryan (2-4, 2.82 ERA), Steve Hammond (7-4, 3.45 ERA) and Joe Bateman (2-1, 2.47 ERA).

Former SJ Giant Joe Bateman (2005) will be heading to the 2008 Southern League All-Star Game on July 14 in Zebulon, NC. This will be Bateman's second All-Star trip, as he represented the SJ Giants in the 2005 Cal-Carolina League. Bateman was acquired by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2007 Rule Five Draft. Congratulations Joe!
